Secretary’s
'Blog'
Autumn 2008
We were all saddened to learn of the
death of our Show Secretary, Mrs Audrey Forster on 1st July this
year. Audrey was a Founder Member, General Secretary and latterly,
Show Secretary of our Association and over a 10 year period had
worked very hard to achieve championship status for the Association.
The funeral took place on 21 July at
Carmountside Crematorium, Milton and it was most comforting I
am sure for both family and friends to see such a wonderful turn-out
which was a fitting tribute to Audrey. Most of our Officers and
Committee attended together with family, friends and many others
from the Flatcoated Retriever Society where Audrey also served
on the committee for many years. We know that Peter, Clare, Mark
and all the family will miss her terribly as she was very family
orientated and always considered their needs and wishes, whilst
giving her time freely for the benefit of the Association.
We all gathered at the Hollybush
Inn at Denford, Leek after the service and it was fitting that
we could reminisce, as dog people do, about old times and experiences
shared with Peter and Audrey. We hope that the championship show
on 2 November will live up to our expectations and will be a fitting
tribute to all of Audrey’s hard work over the years.
Joyce Ryder has very kindly taken over as Acting Show Secretary
until next year’s AGM and we are grateful to Joyce who has
a wealth of experience. Although entries for the show have now
closed, we would still welcome your support on the day . Please
try to support the Association and we would welcome any offers
of help to try and make this a special day for our Judges, Members
and friends.
We are now coming to the end of
what has turned out to be a very wet and sometimes stormy show
season. Hopefully, this is not a sign of things to come, but I
cannot help wondering if some of the bigger Ch shows will try
and find indoor accommodation for their championship shows if
the current weather trends continue. The shows both at SKC, Richmond
and Darlington were a mud bath this year and two of them were
practically on the brink of cancellation. This, together with
the catastrophic events at Blackpool is quite worrying for the
future of outdoor dog shows.
We look forward to seeing you all at
Elsecar Heretage Centre on 2 November which is an excellent indoor
venue and hope you will all have an enjoyable and successful day.

Hon. Secretary
